Wayne Warren Wenzel, 80, formerly of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at Stratford Specialty Care in Stratford, IA. A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2015, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake, with Chaplain Jerry Newswander officiating. Following a luncheon, burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Rowan, IA. A visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2015, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake.
Wayne was born on October 6, 1935, the son of Christal Dan and Kate Alice (Peddle) Wenzel in Rowan. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Joan Olinger on November 23, 1958, in Rowan. To this union they were blessed with four children. A graduate of Rowan High School, Wayne went to work as a carpenter for Dick Whittman in Rowan. He and Marjorie moved to Belmond in 1958 where he continued carpentry work for Dorr Brothers. During the 1960’s he was farmhand for Tomco Seeds and moved to a farm southwest of Belmond. In 1974 he began working for Farmer’s Grain. In 1990 he started working for the Klemme Elevator; retiring after 14 years. In 2008 he and Marjorie moved to Clear Lake. Wayne was a longtime member of Lions and was awarded the Iowa Lions Warren Coleman Honorary Award for dedicated service. He also served as an elder at Immanuel Reformed Church in Belmond.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Stratford; four children, Stephanie (Clint) Kalvig of Huxley, IA, Steven Wenzel of Stratford, Susan (John) Carlson of Stanchfield, MN, and Shelly (Eric) Berg of Duluth, MN; ten grandchildren, Carina (Chris) Phillips of Honolulu, HI, Clinton (Desirč) Kalvig of Des Moines, Sara (Sean Perkovich) Kalvig of Ames, Jessica (Brett Opheim) North of Mason City, Samantha (Tom) Solomonson of Joice, Kyle Wenzel of Stratford, Daniel Carlson of Stanchfield, MN, Michael Carlson of Stanchfield, MN, Grace Berg of Duluth, MN, and Nicholas Berg of Duluth, MN; two great grandchildren, Shane and Chloč Kalvig; and a brother, Roger (Karen) Wenzel of Rowan. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a great grandson, Cameron.
