Arthur Henry Conrad Ahrens, the son of Charles and Kathryn Michell Ahrens, was born on April 25, 1906 in Boone county, Iowa. He attended the St. Paul Lutheran schools in Boone county and for one year, he attended the Concordia Theological Seminary at Springfield, Ill. During World War II, he served as a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army. On June 8, 1947, he was united in marriage with Fausta Wycoff at Ames, Iowa. They lived at Ames for two years and in 1949, they moved to Eagle Grove, where they owned and operated the, Ahrens Paint and Gift Store for 21 years. He was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove and had served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and was honored with the Eagle Scout Award; the Silver Beaver and Lamb Award and served as a scout master for many years. He was a longtime member of the Clarence Shurtz American Legion Post; the Bower Masonic Lodge; the Iowa Historical Society and was a past member of the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce.

He died at the Ahrens home in Eagle Grove on Thursday morning, May 19, 1983 of a sudden illness. He attained the age of 77 years and 24 days. He is survived by his wife, Fausta; his son, Douglas A. Ahrens of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, Mary, Mrs. Leonard Richardson of Menlo Park, Calif.; a brother, Andrew Ahrens of Boone; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lydia Ahrens of Story City. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Emma Nelson and Mildred Ahrens and two brothers, Edward and Albert.

Funeral services for Arthur Ahrens, 77, of Eagle Grove, were held on Monday, May 23, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Paul Schaedig, church pastor officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. A flag presentation was made at the graveside by a member of the Clarence Shurtz American Legion Post. Visitation was held on Sunday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
