Larry E. Beyer, 78, formerly of Belmond, died December 20, 2015 at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls, SD. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 26 at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service, with interment at Rosehill Cemetery, Parker, SD.

Larry Eugene, son of Carl and Ruth (Oelkers) Beyers, was born May 18, 1937 in Hampton. He graduated from Sheffield High School in 1955 and joined the Iowa Army National Guard. He was united in marriage with Darlene “Dolly” Otten on June 24, 1961 in Belmond. Larry served in the Iowa Army National Guard for 22 years, retiring as a colonel. He also worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation as an inspector for 36 years. The couple lived in Belmond until ill health forced them to move to Sioux Falls in 2013 to be closer to family.

Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He had a John Deere tractor collection and loved making things out of wood, such as bird houses, benches and doll houses. He also had an impressive coin collection. Some of Larry’s happiest times were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dennis; and mother and father-in-law Harley and Katie Otten. Survivors include his wife Darlene; daughters Jodi (Richard) Loux, Jill (Ron) Niehaus, Janna (Rob) Graff, and Jennifer (Tim) Singleton; grandchildren Noah Loux, Bethany Loux, Emily Loux, Grace Loux, Makiya Beyer, Shania Graff, Heather Graff and Amanda Graff; great grandson Andy Ramm; and 17 nephews and nieces.
