August 28, 1921 --- April 2, 1990

Gaylord Alvin Thompson, son of Nels and Nora Vorland Thompson, was born on August 28, 1921, on a farm southeast of Eagle Grove. He received his education in the Eagle Grove schools and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1940.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in September of 1942, and served in combat in the North and South Pacific. He received his honorable discharge in March of 1946, and returned to Eagle Grove to farm. Gaylord was united in marriage to Alice Iverson of Eagle Grove on April 28, 1946, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove. He retired in 1984 and moved into Eagle Grove. Mrs. Thompson died in 1981.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as Deacon and was active in numerous church activities. He had been a longtime 4-H leader and an active member with Farm Bureau.

Gaylord Thompson entered the Park Manor Nursing Home in Fort Dodge on October 31, 1989, and died there on April 2, 1990, at the age of 68 years, seven months and four days. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two-year-old sister, Anna. He is survived by his three sons, John, St. Michael, Minn.; Roger, Eagle Grove; and Mark, Billings, Mont.; three brothers, Thealburn, Renwick; Stanley, Eagle Grove; and Duane, Eagle Grove; one sister, Mrs. Howard (JeNell) Hilleman of State Center; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services for Gaylord Thompson were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 5 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove. The Rev. Lyle Peters, officiated, and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
