Esther Mae Skadburg, the daughter of Lars and Marie (Haugland) Moss, was born Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1918, in Norway Township, Wright County, Iowa. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church near Kanawha. Esther's family later moved to a farm northwest of Eagle Grove. She was confirmed at Samuel Lutheran Church and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1937.

On February 14, 1940, Esther was united in marriage to Norris Skadburg at Samuel Lutheran Church. They farmed north of Holmes and later moved to a farm southeast of Eagle Grove. A few years later the couple moved to a farm north of Goldfield where they lived 27 years before purchasing the Ida Thompson farm north of Goldfield in 1958 and moving to it in 1973. They farmed together 62 years and eventually moved to Eagle Grove.

Esther was a member of Holmes Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for several years, was active in the Home circle and many other church activities. Esther was proud of her Norwegian heritage and was a member of the Sons of Norway. Cooking her Norwegian lefse, kringla, kumla and other goodies will be missed by her family and friends.

Esther passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2015, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 96 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norris; a granddaughter, Brigetta Ann in infancy; son, Ron; five brothers, Palmer, Olaf, Martin, Orville and Harold and one sister, Mildred Edwards. Survivors include three children: Elaine (Norm) Brasel of Minneapolis, MN, Judy (Denny) Renkiewicz of Grand Marais, MN and Don Skadburg (Suzanne) of Clive, IA; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at the Holmes Lutheran Church in Holmes, Iowa with Pastor Richard Taylor officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be Holmes Lutheran Cemetery, Holmes. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
