AKRON, Iowa -- Alma Seely, 87, of Akron passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at the Akron Care Center in Akron. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Union Creek Lutheran Church, rural Akron. The Rev. Carla Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in Union Creek Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home–Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Alma Iantha Wyatt was born Aug. 22, 1928, in Hardy, Iowa, one of twin daughters born to Oscar and Mae (Larison) Wyatt. She attended school at Vernon Township Consolidated School and graduated in 1945. Following high school, she attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she received her two-year teaching certificate. Following college, she taught school in Akron, Iowa, from 1947 to1949.

She was united in marriage to Eldon Seely on July 10, 1949. The couple farmed in Union County, S.D. After raising her children, Alma worked in the dietary department at the Akron Care Center and was the supervisor when she retired in 1997. In 1987, they moved off the farm and into Akron. Eldon passed away on March 26, 2001. After Eldon's passing, she returned to the care center as a volunteer, something she was doing up until her health began to fail. She became a resident of the care center in December of 2014.

Alma was a longtime member of Union Creek Lutheran Church, where she served on church council and helped in other capacities. She was a faithful member of the youth committee for a number of years. Through the years, Alma enjoyed gardening, knitting, quilting, reading, jigsaw puzzles, cooking and baking. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Marsha McGraw of Sioux City, Marlene (Robert) Gries of Sioux City, and Myron (Michelle) Seely of Hinton, Iowa; her grandchildren, Shari (Gary) Evans-Murphy, Robert (Stephanie) Gries Jr., Cody Seely, and Tawny Seely; her great-grandchildren, Trenton Evans-Murphy, Elise Evans-Murphy, JJ Strain, and Cadence Strain; her twin sister, Alta Johnson of Akron; a brother, Charles (Beth) Wyatt of George, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Shirley Wyatt of Leesburg, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Etta Ogan; two brothers, Burl (Harriet) Wyatt and Virgil Wyatt; a son-in-law, Roger McGraw; and a brother-in-law, Arden Johnson. Memorials can be made in Alma's name to the Akron Care Center.
