Knut Rasmussen Vier// Knute Knudson was born Aug 4, 1864 in Hana, Stavenger, Norway to Rasmuss Knutson Vierson and Ane (Torsteinsdt) Krietine. Knute is one of three brother and six sisters.

The first 10 years of his life is unknown. Knute came to America in 1879 at the age of 15 settling in Eagle Grove, IA. He traveled to Washington state and California before returning to Eagle Grove, Ia. It is here he met Bertha Peterson. They were married, May 30, 1889 at Eagle Grove, Ia by Rev. H. C. Holm, pastor of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church.

After their marriage, they moved to Tacoma, Washington where Ida was born. They then moved to California where their son, Clarence was born. Another son, Conrad was born after a move back to Tacoma, Wa. Knute then moved his family back to Eagle Grove, Iowa about 1893 or 1894. He was in the butchering business with Marcus Olson. Three more sons were born, Ruben Cornelius, Peter Gustav, and Sigvold Radin.

During 1900, the family moved to Rushmore, Minnesota. Knute worked at first as a farm hand, later farming for himself. Four more children were born, Amanda, Mabel, Esther, and Bernest.

Tragedy struck the Knudson family when Ruben died from a ruptured appendix on Jan 26, 1908. He was buried in the Ransom Cemetery, south of Rushmore, Minnesota. In the spring of 1908, Knute moved once again, along with others, to western South Dakota, near the Nowlin area. Here is where Knute became a Homesteader. But times were not good for the Knudson family. The weather was dry, the winters were cold, and blizzards caused Knute to lose all his cattle. He gave up his homestead and moved once again to Centerville, South Dakota in 1911. Knute worked for Gunderson Ranch being foreman. He bought 80 acres NW of Centerville.

Knute was a member of Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville. The pastor was known to call on him many times for prayer in the Sunday morning services.

Knute developed a blood clot in his leg, which made it necessary at that time, for Dr. Moe to amputate his leg. Gangrene set in, causing Knute's death on June 6, 1931.

Survivors include his wife; children, Peter Gustav of Hurley SD, Clarence, Mrs E. J. (Ida) Long, and Mrs Joe (Amanda) Olson all of Sioux Falls SD; Conrad, Sigvold and Bernest all of Centerville SD, and Mrs. Isaac (Esther) Oakland of Volin SD; 23 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Ruben Cornelius.
