June 24, 1932 --- July 2, 1963

Mrs. Shirley JoAnn Clausen, 31, a former Duncombe resident who had taught school at Clarion the past two years, was killed early last evening in a three-car auto-crash about three miles west of the north Duncombe curve on Highway 20.

Funeral services for Mrs. Clausen will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Washington Lutheran church in Duncombe with the Rev. Palmer Loken of Sheffield, a former Lutheran pastor of Duncombe, officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland cemetery at Webster City with Foster funeral home in charge.

Shirley JoAnn Hanson, daughter of Clifford and Margaret Rose Hanson, was born June 24, 1932, on a farm near Duncombe and received her elementary schooling in the Duncombe schools. She attended high school at Fort Dodge and at Lake Park, Iowa, graduating at Excelsior Township in 1953. Then attended Buena Vista college at Storm Lake, receiving her teacher's degree there. She taught school at Schaller, Iowa, and for the past two years had taught sixth grade English in the Clarion schools.

She is survived by one son and one daughter, Robert Arnold Clausen and Mary Margaret Clausen, both of Fort Dodge, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hanson of Duncombe; one brother, Johnie K. Hanson of Duncombe. She was preceded in death by one sister, Naomi. Mrs. Clausen was baptized and confirmed in the Washington Lutheran church of Duncombe and was a member of Christ's Lutheran church at Fort Dodge.
