Walter Henry Attig was born October 2, 1892 to Adam and Margaret Anna Attig in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away at the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines, June 30th, 1969, at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 28 days. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 3 in the United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ronald Petrak officiating.
When he was two years old his father died, and when four years old his mother married Carl Kruse and moved with his family to LuVerne, Iowa, where he grew up. He joined the army February 27, 1918. He was wounded in action and discharged January 11, 1919. After his discharge, he resided in Des Moines and on February, 20, 1922 married Mary Aga. To this union was born two daughters, Mary Roselyn, (Mrs. Marienus Davids) of Spring Valley, Minn., and Marilyn Elaine, (Mrs. David Miller) of Villa Park, Ill.
In his youth he joined the Presbyterian Church at LuVerne, Iowa, and transferred his membership to First EUB Church in Des Moines in 1922. In 1936 he moved to Renwick, and joined the Renwick EUB, Church, now the First Methodist Church. He was faithful in his attendance and support of his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Carl and Henry; three sisters, Rosalie, Lena, and Esther; and one grandson, Kenneth Miller. Surviving him are his wife and two daughters, ten grandchildren, one sister, Christine, (Mrs. Emil Eggerth) Ventura, Ia., one brother, Fred Kruse of LuVerne, Ia., and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was well known and loved in this community. He drove a school bus for 19 years for Vernon and Renwick schools, and was town Marshal for several years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and a friend to all he met.
