BELMOND, Iowa -- Berniece C. Scott–Anderson, 97, most recently a resident of the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond, passed away Oct. 19, 2015, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Services were held Oct. 23, at Andrews Funeral Home, 516 1st Street SE, in Belmond. Burial was in Alexander Cemetery, Alexander, Iowa. The Rev. Kerin Sorenson officiated.

Berniece Clarice Bohler, was born on Sept. 2, 1918, in Alexander, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Sylvia (Kinseth) Bohler. She grew up in Alexander, where she attended Alexander Schools through the 11th grade. Berniece was united in marriage to Donald M. Scott on Aug. 31, 1936. Following their marriage, they lived in Belmond where they began raising their family. The couple's union was blessed with their three children, Dennis, Cheryl, and Danny. Berniece and Don owned and operated Scott's Cafe in Belmond for several years and then made their home in Renwick, Iowa. Eventually they returned to Belmond and back to Alexander where they lived from 1951 to 1966.

At that time, they purchased the Silver Boot Drive-In in Clear Lake, Iowa. Their hospitality business expanded when they acquired the motel adjacent to the drive-in and enjoyed their town and clientele until 1973 when Donald passed away. Berniece later sold the business.

On Sept. 1, 1978, Berniece married Harry Anderson and they built a home by Hanlontown, Iowa, near the Winnebago River. They enjoyed their home for a time prior to moving to Mason City, Iowa. Harry passed away on July 1, 1999. Berniece continued to live in Mason City and eventually made her home at the Belmond Community Apartments/Leinbach Center. Berniece had been a resident of the Rehabilitation Center for the last four years.

During her life's journeys, Berniece enjoyed many past times. During her years with Donald, she loved raising her children and supporting them in all their adventures and accomplishments in life. They loved to spend time pontooning and fishing in Clear Lake. Berniece truly loved people and activities that involved friends. She was a green thumb raising beautiful flowers. Berniece loved crafts and was an avid card player. Many people recall her often stating, "Shut up and let’s play cards." She loved to dance and had done so well into her 70s. She and Harry looked forward to travels to Branson, Mo. She had many good friends and times at the retirement center. In her time at the Rehab Center, Berniece's participated in most of the activities there, a favorite of hers was Penny Pitch.

Berniece will be remembered for her warm personality, love for others, nature, and birds. She was always beautiful inside and out.

Survivors include her son, Dennis Scott of Mason City, Iowa; daughter, Cheryl (Donald) Barkema of Meservey, Iowa; son, Danny (Rojean) Scott, Sioux City; a sister, Lillian Campbell of Belmond; and 10 grandchildren, Gregory Scott, Michelle Smith, Douglas Scott, Christopher Scott, Amy Ringler, Todd Berg, Jeffrey Berg, Jill McGuire, Julie Brammer, and Kari Leedom. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Donald and Harry; daughter-in-law, Judith Scott; two grandsons, Gregory Berg and Ashton Scott; and sister, Francis Larson.
