Funeral services for Axel Axelson who died Sunday, Sept. 11, at his home, 308 North Water street, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church with the Rev. LeRoy H. Klaus officiating. Mrs. Klaus and Mrs. Vern Babcock sang "Lead Kindly Light" and "Jesus Lover of My Soul." Interment was made in the Northfield cemetery.
Axel Axelson was born November 24, 1867, at Vincent, Iowa, the son of Johannes and Lesabeth (Tollefson) Axelson, both born in Norway. He was married Feb. 4, 1895, to Larsena Ludvigson of Vincent, where they made their home for many years. Three sons were born to them, John of Northfield and two boys who died in infancy. Mrs. Axelson died in February, 1902. Mr. Axelson farmed later at Lake Wilson and then moved to New Prague with his son and family. They moved to Northfield twelve years ago, and Mr. Axelson had been caretaker for eight years at the Northfield tourist park until the past two years. Surviving Mr. Axelson are his son, John, and five grandchildren of Northfield, and one sister, Mrs. J. T. Johnson, of Lake Mills, Iowa. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ralston of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Johnson and son of Lake Mills, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Taylor of Mason City, Iowa; Erick Erickson and son of Mason City, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hovick and Mrs. Lars Johnson of Thor, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Youngberg and son and Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Youngberg of Cumberland, Wis.
