Nellie Smith of South Iowa Avenue, Eagle Grove, died Wednesday, April 30, 1980 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. She was 86. Prayer services for Mrs. Smith were held Friday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home. Rev. Cox of Fort Dodge conducted the service. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3 at 10 a.m. from the United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. William Cotton officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Emmetsburg.

Nellie (Mcllhatton) Smith was born March 7, 1894 in Larne County, Antrim, North Ireland, the daughter of Patrick and Margaret Mcllhatton
She emigrated from Ireland to Brooklyn, Jowa in October 1912. On Aug. 4, 1914 Nellie and Sam Smith were united in marriage. They were engaged in farming until they moved to Eagle Grove in 1946. Mrs Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, on Jan. 5, 1958; three brothers and four sisters. Surviving are their five children, Evan of Curlew, Raymond of Curlew, Cecil of Emmetsburg, Ethel Duncan of Saratoga, Calif., and F. Nile Smith of Detroit, Mich.; 18 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and a brother, Hough Mcllhattan of North Ireland.
