Mrs. I. Melhus, 78, Passes Saturday

Funeral service for Mrs. Isabelle Melhus, 78, who died Saturday at the Clarion Memorial hospital, were held Monday afternoon at the Clarion Lutheran church, Rev. Roy Quill officiating. Burial was in the Rosehill cemetery at Eagle Grove.

Mrs. Isabelle Norem Melhus was born May 18, 1878, to Judith and Gunnar Norem at Leland, Ill. She
grew up and attended school near Leland. She was united in marriage to Ole Melhus. Three children were born to this union. The early years of their marriage were spent on a farm near Lindenwood, Ill. Later they moved to the vicinity of Clarion. From here they moved to Williams. While residing there Mr. Melhus died. After the death of her husband, she divided her time among her children, spending the last year with Irving at Galt. She was baptized as a child in the Lutheran church at Leland, Ill., and later was confirmed in the same church. During her residence near Clarion she became a member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church.

Approximately a week before her death she suffered a stroke and was taken to the Clarion hospital. She lapsed into a coma Thursday. Surviving are her two sons: Joyce of Clarion and Irving of Galt; two foster daughters whom she raised as her own: Mrs. Marcia Brown of Des Moines, and Mrs. Ruth Staika of Detroit, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Her husband and a son, Ordean preceded her in death.
