George Loren Carpenter, 94, of Osgood and Idaho Falls, died May 6, 1993, at Pocatello Regional Medical Center of natural causes. He was born Jan. 11, 1899, at Renwick, Iowa, to Harry Dale and Rose Evelyn Mills Carpenter. He lived in Meridian, Shelley, Albion, and Nampa. On Sept. 18, 1920, he married Elizabeth Hannah Daw at Shelley. Their marriage was later solemnized at Logan, Utah, LDS Temple in 1937. She died on Jan. 9, 1990. He farmed and ranched in Osgood from 1936 until his retirement in 1970. He was a veteran of World War I and served as Idaho State Commander of World War I Veterans. He was active in the LDS Church and served in the MIA, Sunday school, and genealogy programs. He served a mission with his wife in Holbrook, Ariz., and also worked at the Idaho Falls Temple.
Survivors include six sons and one daughter, Wayne and Douglas Carpenter of Ogden, Utah, Verl Carpenter of Osgood, Vere Carpenter of Mesa, Ariz., Fred Carpenter of Firth, Wendell Carpenter and Mrs. Clavin (Rayola) McBride, both of Sparks, Nev.; two brothers, Carroll and Cyril Carpenter both of Boise; 45 grandchildren; 138 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, a brother, a sister, two granddaughters, one grandson, and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be 11 am. Monday at the Osgood LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop David Reed officiating. The family will meet with friends from 7:30 to 9 tonight at Wood Funeral Home and for an hour before services at the chapel. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.
