April 24, 1832 --- June 25, 1912

Lavina McPherson was born in Richmond County, Ohio April 24, 1832 and was married to John Middleton at Port Washington, Ohio on September 27, 1848. They came to Iowa in 1855, being among the first settlers of Wright County, settling on what is now the old Newcomb farm. Mr. Middleton's death occurred in Eagle Grove September 3, 1901. Seven children were born to this union, five of whom preceded her in the great beyond, Mrs. Caroline Slaikeu, Jemima Middleton, Allen Middleton, Mrs. Iowa Newcomb, and Mrs. Lucy McMillan. John W. Middleton and Mrs. Dora J. Gunderson are still living. Besides these two children there are fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. The deceased joined the Methodist Church when sixteen years of age and was one of the original members of the M. E. Church in this city. Her death occurred Tuesday, June 25, 1912, aged 80 years, two months and one day. A short time previous she was taken to the Eagle Grove Hospital from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gunderson, at Thor, and her death occurred in the hospital. The funeral was held in the Methodist Church in Eagle Grove Wednesday at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Wilkinson who was assisted by Rev. C. B. Winter, former pastor of the deceased. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
