August 1, 1838 --- June 28, 1902

Lois Ann Butler was born at Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania August 1, 1838 and died at the old Middleton homestead in Troy Township June 28, 1902. The Butler family moved from their eastern home to Webster City in the spring of 1856. In 1857 she married Jose R. Middleton who came to this part of Iowa and selected his claim in Troy Township in 1854. He died January 17, 1889. There were nine children: Mrs. Lizzie Vaughn of Simpson, Kansas; Elza Middleton of Seattle, Washington; Sumner A.; Oliver K.; Adam L.; and Elbert J.; all of Eagle Grove; and Alice Middleton; Ruth Middleton; and Nora Odenheimer who have gone on before — Ruth in 1861, Nora in 1895, and Alice in 1901. Mrs. Middleton joined the Presbyterian Church in early life and the M. E. Church in 1858. Her funeral was held Monday afternoon at the Troy Church.
