CLEAR LAKE – Mildred R. Smith, 82, 108 N. Fifth St., Clear Lake, died Thursday (March 15, 1990) at Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be 10:a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. James Louk officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born Jan 5, 1908, in Kanawha, a daughter of Ben and Tena (Lamprecht) Nieman. She attended country school near Kanawha. She was married to Clarence Tanner. They farmed in the Klemme area. He died in 1933. On March 12, 1935, she was married to Frank Smith at Mason City. They lived in Clear Lake. She worked at the Clear Lake Telephone office as an operator. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake.
Visitation is after 3:30 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Ramona) Miller, Clear Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Terhufen and Mrs. Naomi Brandt, both of Clear Lake; one brother, Ben “Bud” Nieman, Ventura; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and two sisters.
