Isabelle Melling Leetun was born April 3, 1867, at Stavanger, Norway, and died of a heart attack at the home of her daughter in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 11, 1959, at the age of 92 years and 8 days. Mrs. Leetun came to America at the age of 20 years, and made her home with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Norstad, at Eagle Grove, Iowa. She married Lars Leetun on Feb. 26, 1893, and they made their home at Eagle Grove. There were born their three children, two sons and a daughter. The children are Oren C. Leetun, now of New York City, Jeannette, now Mrs. Joesph B. Midgorden, of Des Moines, and Milton E. Leetun, formerly of Hettinger, N. D., who preceded her in death.
Shortly after the marriage in 1893, Mr. and Mrs. Leetun became members of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and they remained faithful members.
Leaving Eagle Grove, the family lived for a time at Harvey, N. D. Having no church privileges here, and inadequate schools for their children, the family moved in 1909 to the church headquarters in Lamoni. They lived there until Mr. Leetun died in 1942. Mrs. Leetun continued to live in Lamoni until she suffered a stroke in 1955. Left an invalid, she was cared for in the home of her daughter, in Des Moines, during the rest of her life.
Except for the disability of her late years, Mrs. Leetun enjoyed good health. She was a hard worker. She was eager for good church and school privileges for her children. She was a good and beloved neighbor. Besides her two remaining children, she leaves one brother who lives in Stavanger, Norway. Memorial services were held at the Lamoni RLDS church with interment in Rose Hill cemetery.
We wish to extend our sincere thanks to the many friends and neighbors for their kind deeds and sympathy at the time of our recent sorrow. Also our appreciation to Group 2 for the find food they served. These courtesies were greatly appreciated by everyone. - Mr. & Mrs. J. B. Midgorden, Mr. & Mrs. Oren C. Leetun, Mrs. Therese Leetun and family, Dudley Leetun, Maynard Leetun.
