May 22, 1842 --- December 1, 1919

Walker W. Gardner was born May 22, 1842, in the state of Pennsylvania. When seven years of age his father's family moved to Michigan where he lived until he became a young man and was married. On December 18, 1867, Mr. Gardner was united in marriage to Miss Lydia Card. Five children were born of this union: one son and four daughters. One daughter only is living.

After marriage, Mr. Gardner and his family lived for eighteen years at Eldora, Iowa, and during the last thirty-three years he had been a resident of Eagle Grove. When about thirty years old Mr. Gardner united with the Christian church and he always maintained his faith in Christ as his Saviour. During the last four months Mr. Gardner had been in failing health. For two weeks or more his health had been somewhat improved when suddenly on Sunday night he suffered a stroke of paralysis and died Monday afternoon at 5:45 o'clock, Dec. 1, 1919, aged 77 years, 5 months and 9 days.

The following near relatives are left to mourn his departure to the eternal world: his wife, one daughter, Mrs. A. H. Packard, of Eagle Grove; three grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. J. E. Choate of Eldora, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the late home of the deceased on East Fifth Street, Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. and were conducted by Rev. Chas. H. Seward, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment in the Eagle Grove cemetery.
