September 2, 1878 --- August 10, 1907
Geo. Gardner died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Gardner, Saturday August 10 at 6:25 p.m. About three years ago it was learned he was afflicted with tuberculosis and during all this time he has struggled against its progress, many times encouraged to believe he would conquer, but finally was vanquished by its remorseless march.
He was born at Eldora Sep. 2nd 1878 and came with his parents to Eagle Grove when eight years of age where he grew to manhood and resided until his death. June 28th he was married to Miss Carrie Jones who with one son survives to mourn his untimely death. One little boy born to them died at the age of three months, May 1st 1904.
The funeral was held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon at two o'clock Rev. A. J. Lander of the Baptist church conducting the ceremonies. Rev. C. E. Chapler made the opening prayer and Rev. O. R. Sletten the closing. There were many tributes of flowers and many manifestations of sympathy by neighbors and friends. The bereaved wife and son, parents and relatives have the warm sympathy of all. The burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
George was always a good steady young man, a dutiful and affectionate son, a kind husband and father and he leaves a rich heritage of kindness in this circle as well as with all acquaintances.
Those attending the funeral from abroad were Mr. and Mrs. Tollman, Mrs. J. E. Choate of Eldora: Mrs. A. A. Packard and daughter of Renwick and Mr. J. L. Jones of Lake City. Mrs. Tolleman is a sister of Mrs. W. W. Gardener, and Mrs. Choate a sister of Mr. W. W. Gardener, Mr. Jones, is the father of Mrs. Geo. Gardner.
