Marjorie H. Madsen, 95, San Diego, CA, died December 29, 2014. She will be buried Thursday, August 20 at 2 p.m. next to her husband Keith in the Belmond Cemetery. Friends are welcome to attend the service.

Marjorie was born in Lester on August 20, 1919 to Bert and Emma Haegele Hewlett. The family moved to Belmond in 1933 where Bert co-founded First State Bank. Marjorie attended Grinnell College and UCLA where she received an advanced degree in social work. She worked on the south side of Chicago in the late 1940’s. In 1951 Marjorie married Keith Madsen, son of Earl and Louise Knox Madsen of Belmond. They lived in Wellesley, MA where she was a mother and homemaker. Keith died in 1960, leaving her with two children. She lived in Wellesley until 1989 when she moved to San Diego to be near her children.  Marjorie loved travel, art, music, politics and finances. She read three newspapers each day and loved to attend concerts, plays, and visit museums. She enjoyed time spent with family and close friends.

Marjorie is survived by her children Christine and James; daughter-in-law Estela; grandson Nicholas; granddaughters Paola and Alejandra; great granddaughters Nicolette and Amelie; and 11 nieces and nephews.
