Funeral service for Opal Mae Friesenborg, 90, was held Monday afternoon, December 29, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Thompson. Rev. Perry Fruhling officiated with Mary Ann Olsen as organist. Vocalist were Rosemary Brackey and Jan Block who sang "Your Borning Cry" and "Does Jesus Care." The congregation sang "Lift High The Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." The casket bearers were Tracy Adams, Kurt Allen, William Friesenborg, Joe Larson, John Larson and Brent VanKoevering. Burial was in Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center.
The daughter of Francis and Helen (Espe) Berhow, Opal was born July 18, 1907, near Kanawha. Her family moved to Buffalo Center in 1919. She was confirmed at Liberty Lutheran Church, Rake, and received her education at Buffalo Center High School. In 1925 she was married to William Friesenborg. He died November 15, 1958. Mrs. Friesenborg moved to Thompson in 1975 and resided there until 1991 when she became a resident of Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Thompson, and was active in the Eden #4 Birthday Club for several years. She died December 25, 1997, at Timely Mission.
Survivors include two sons, Gary and his wife Linda of Buffalo Center and Tim of Golden City, Mo.; two daughters, Arvilla Allen and her husband Eugene of Rockford, Ill., and Jackie Larson of Buffalo Center; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Arlene Warner and her husband Maynard of Rockford, Ill., Wanda Cairns of Tavares, Flo., and Helen Nitzband and husband Rod of Eufaula, Okla.; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill; two sons, Billy and Marlyn Friesenborg; one daughter, Arlette; and a son-in-law, Ronald Larson.
