Irene Lettow, 103, of Iowa Falls and formerly of Alden, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015, at the Heritage Care Center, Iowa Falls. Funeral services for Irene Lettow will be 11:00 Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ, 212 West Street, Alden, Iowa. A time of visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Sunday, February 22nd at the Linn’s Funeral Home, 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa. Burial will be at the Alden Township Cemetery, Alden, Iowa. Memorials are requested to the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ, 212 West Street, Alden, Iowa 50006.

Irene Lettow was born March 20, 1911, at her parents farm near Popejoy, Iowa, in Franklin County. She was the daughter of Elmer Cox and Cora Jane [Graham] Cox. She was baptized at the Popejoy United Methodist Church. She graduated from the Popejoy High School with the class of 1929. She attended the Ellsworth College, Iowa Falls and then Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, receiving her teaching Certificate. She taught in a rural school 5 miles west of Alden, Iowa for 2 years. On June 10, 1934, Irene was united in marriage to George Otto Franz Lettow in her parent’s home. To this union three children were born: Larry, Ronald, and Harriett. The couple farmed northwest of Iowa Falls and then north of Alden, Iowa. Irene also worked for the Iowa Falls Community School System Lunch Program for many years. She was a member of the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ, Alden, Iowa, the IMUCC Ladies Auxiliary, the Iowa Falls Women’s Club, and a former member and longtime former secretary of the Alden Cemetery Board.

Irene Lettow is survived by her children: Larry [Roene] Lettow of Carthage, Missouri, Ronald [Sandy] Lettow of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Harriett [Dick] Evans of Bella Vista, Arkansas; nine grandchildren; Jeff [Crystal] Lettow of Spring Valley, California, David [Rhonda] Lettow of Carthage, Missouri, Jason Lettow of Iowa Falls, Stephanie [Scott] Denton of Waukee, Iowa, Seth [Beth] Lettow of Alden, Iowa, Mark [friend; Jenna Bassett] of Iowa Falls, Chris [Ann] Evans of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Laeron [Sheilah] of Milford, Ohio, Melinda [Ted] Hill of Spokane, Washington; 24 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law: Esther Mae Cox. She was preceded in death by her parents: Elmer and Cora Cox; her husband: George Lettow; and three brothers: Fred C. [Eleanor] Cox, Marion L. [Beatrice] Cox, and E. Dale Cox.
