August 12, 1858 --- January 4, 1936

John Edgar Glendy was born at Vinton, Iowa, August 12, 1858 and died at his home in Clarion, January 4, 1936 at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 23 days. His early boyhood was spent in and around Vinton. He came to Clarion in 1879 and has lived here continuously with the exception of ten years which was spent in Mobridge, S.D. He was very active in building up the town of Clarion at his trade as Contractor and and builder. He also had an active part in the construction and maintenance of the Clarion Congregational church, having become a member in July, 1887. He was united in marriage with Jennie Stone in February, 1884, who passed to her reward in August, 1902.

Mr. Glendy was a faithful member of his church throughout all his years. On August 29, 1905, he was married to Jennie A. Spavin. To this union one daughter was born, Elizabeth Fern, who died at the age of two years.

He leaves to mourn: His wife, one brother, G. A. Glendy of Clarion; two sisters, Mrs. Mina Bintliff and Mrs. Nora Bintliff of Mitchell, S. D., a number of nephews and nieces, also Mrs. E. W. Herald, an adopted daughter of his former union, and eleven grandchildren at Mobridge, S.D., and a host of friends and neighbors.

Mr. Glendy's quiet faithfulness to duty, his adherence to the principles of right and justice as he saw them and his firm loyalty to his church are virtues well worth our emulation. This is the type of who makes our community stable and our commonwealth enduring. to him was given a long life of usefulness and to him has come rest in the presence of his lord and saviour.

Largely attended funeral services for Mr. Glendy were held Tuesday at the Congregational church with the pastor, Rev. F. C. Lebert, in charge. interment was in clarion Evergreen Cemetery.
