Joseph Simon William Schaumburg was born November 30, 1919, the son of William A. and Louise Loux Schaumburg at Dayton Township, Wright County. He received his education in Dayton Township country school. After receiving his education, he began farming in the Dayton Township area. He continued to farm in the area until his marriage to Myrtle Haas of Goldfield on October 4, 1942. The two were united in marriage at the St. Peters Lutheran Church in Woolstock. The couple farmed and made their home north of the French Church near Woolstock for five years prior to moving south of Troy Township, Wright County and the Governor Blue farm. They quit farming and moved to Eagle Grove in 1950. He began working as a bricklayer for Maynard McCollough. He later was employed for Sadler Construction in Eagle Grove, and continued to work for Sadler until his retirement in 1984.

Joseph S. W. Schaumburg died [February 22, 1994] at the Hamilton County Public Hospital in Webster City following an extended illness. He had attained the age of 74 years, two months and 22 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Joanne Schaumburg; his granddaughter, Michelle McPeak; and one brother, Chester. He is survived by his wife; four sons, William of Dallas, Texas; Robert of Dakota City; Merlin of Eagle Grove; and Martin of Urbandale; two daughters, Louanna McPeak of LuVerne; and Denise Taylor of Spencer; 16 grandchildren; two brothers, LeRoy of Clarion and Richard of Lawrence, Kan.; two sisters, Marie Christian and Georgene Breiner, both of Webster City. Funeral services were held Friday, February 25, at the St Peters Lutheran Church in Woolstock. The Rev. William Vannostrand officiated at the 1:30 p.m. service. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
