Ruth A. Speich, 80 of Ottosen, died Monday December 6, 2010 at Algona Manor, Algona, IA. Services will be held Thursday, December 9, 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ottosen with burial to follow in Union Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-7 PM Wednesday at the Harris Funeral Home in West Bend.

Ruth Arlene Speich was born June 17, 1930 to Antone and Ellen (Johnson) Speich on the Speich Family Farm near Renwick, Iowa. Ruth was educated at the Vernon Consolidated school near Renwick and the Ottosen Consolidated school graduating with the Class of 1948.

Ruth enjoyed many years of friendship with her classmates. After graduation, Ruth moved to Ames, Iowa, to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She worked there for 35 years, retiring in 1983 to move back to Ottosen to care for her mother. Ruth was a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Ottosen, the Lutheran Ladies Aid, the Telephone Pioneers, the Ottosen American Legion Auxiliary, and she also enjoyed bowling and craft shows. Ruth was always very supportive of her nieces and nephews and attended their special events.

Ruth is survived by her brothers: Robert and Karen Speich of Algona, Iowa, and their children: Kevin Speich of Algona, Iowa; LeAnn and Steve Boyken of Lakota, Iowa; Daryl and Leah Speich of Algona, Iowa, and their son Anthony. Norman and Della Speich of Hampton, Iowa, and their children: Barry Speich of Iowa Falls, Iowa; and Michelle and Greg Hanson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and their children Megan and Caleb. Arland and Marva Speich of Marion, Iowa, and their children: David and Kim Speich, son Jim Speich and their and family of Marion, Iowa; Wayne Dirks and family of Central City, Iowa; Steve Dirks and family of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Donna and Clarke Seeley and family of Marion, Iowa; and many friends, neighbors and cousins. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Antone and Ellen Speich, brother Edwin Speich, sisters and brothers-in-law Verona and Paul Berninghaus and Gene and Evelyn Walston and nephew Charles Walston.
