Larry Esk, 75, of Story City, passed away July 28, 2015, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7: p.m. on Thursday, July 30, at Harvest E-Free Church in Story City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 31, also at Harvest E-Free. Burial will be in Story City Municipal Cemetery at a later date.
Larry Allen Esk was born Dec. 27, 1939, to Albert and Grace (Barkema) Esk in Belmond. He attended Iowa State Teachers College and taught special education, and coordinated the work study program in Webster City. Larry and Karen Pratt were married in Clarion on June 30, 1962.
Larry was a loving husband, dad and grandpa to his family. He loved to watch his grandchildren in all of their activities and rarely missed an event. He was a hard worker who worked at 28 different jobs during his life. He loved to camp, and all vacations with friends and family brought him joy. Larry was always thinking of others and has affected many lives in ways we may never know. He was very loved and will be missed.
Larry is survived by his wife, Karen Esk, of Story City; three children, Laurie (Kent) Arnold, of Story City, Tom (Donja) Esk, of Ames, and Julie (Brent) Emerson, of Huxley; and four grandchildren, Payton Arnold, CJ Arnold, Kelli Emerson and Karlee Emerson. He was preceded in death by his parents. Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City is assisting the family with arrangements.
