Kansas City, MO --- Daniel K. Peterson, age 30, a native of Crystal Lake/ North Iowa area, and son, nephew and cousin of many North Iowa residents, most recently of Kansas City, died, of natural causes, Sunday, July 19, 2015, at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Shawnee, KS. Funeral services are tentatively set for Thursday, July 23, 2015, at 7 PM at the Andrews Funeral Home. 516 1st Street S.E, Belmond, IA. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-7 PM Thursday evening proceeding the funeral services. A time of fellowship will follow at the Goodell Community Center, Goodell, IA.
Daniel was born April 1, 1985 in Britt, Iowa, the son of Alan and Shirlee (Brown) Peterson. He was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake and later confirmed at St. John Church in Woden. He grew up on the family dairy farm where he began his lifelong love of animals. As a young person, he could be found milking cows for his family and other neighbor’s farming operations. In his youth, his work ethic blossomed and grew over the rest of his lifetime. During his earlier life, he was active in 4-H, where he had shown a grand champion heifer, as well as Cub and Boy Scouts. He loved sports and had participated in wrestling at Forest City in junior high, played football for WCLT, and played basketball for a year. He was involved in the American Legion and went to Boy’s State. After high school, he attended Waldorf College for a year studying business. Danny had been employed for Winnebago Industries and Andrews Pre-stressed Concrete and for “Bly’s Tree Services”. Both jobs fit his love for being in the outdoors well. Dan was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and devoted to the Iowa State Cyclones. He enjoyed going on treks on his motorcycles, truly relishing the freedoms of the road. Danny was united in marriage to Andrea Smith at the Clear Lake Bandshell in Iowa, which was perfect for their mutual love of music on September 10, 2011. Following their marriage, the have made their home in Shawnee, Kansas. Their union was blessed with a son, Jason, 4, and Andrea’s daughter, Alexandra Smith, 11, both at home in Shawnee. Dan enjoyed times spent with their kids. He very much loved to be a dad. He and Andrea looked forward to attending various music events such as “Rock Fests”, Warp Tours, and numerous other venues. He was and excellent cook with a great skill on the barbeque grill adding an extra zip to his grilled delights. Dan had done some fishing on occasion and recently began and interest in hunting turkeys. He will be remembered as a man of big stature with the heart of a teddy bear.
His memory will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of his wife, Andrea Peterson, and children, Jason Peterson and Alexandra Smith of Shawnee, KS; his parents, Alan and Shirlee (Brown) Peterson, Britt, Iowa; brothers, Scott (Tabitha) Peterson and family of Garner, Iowa, and Steve (Alyssa) Peterson, Clear Lake, Iowa; father-in-law, Tom Smith and Janet Ruggles, Lenexa, KS; mother-in-law, Linda Tacinda, Shawnee, KS; brother-in-law, Chris Smith and Amanda, Baldwin City, KS; brother-in-law, Ben and Will Peterson, Lenexa, KS; also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his aunt Pam Brown, aunt and uncle Bonnie and Bill Crosby, uncle LaMonte Koppen, cousin Chrissy Holst, aunt Marilyn Peterson, Viola and Kenneth Brown, Lauretz (Proc) Della Peterson, and special friend Jason Knutson.
