Orvil Luppes, 72, Webster City, died of cancer Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Private graveside services will be held Thursday at the Liberty Township Cemetery near Blairsburg with Rev. John K. Wilson to officiate. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Hamilton County Hospice in Webster City, or the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Orvil Vay Luppes was born March 19, 1929 in Kamrar to Johnnie J. and Pearl Meyer Luppes. He was a 1946 graduate of Kamrar High School and attended Webster City Junior College. Orvil married Gwen Jean Critchfield on Sept. 10, 1950 in Galt. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had worked as a beef herdsman for the Iowa State University and farmed in the Blairsburg area for 40 years. He retired in 1988 and they have lived in Webster City for the past 12 years. He was a member of the Blairsburg Community Improvement Association and the Boone Valley Snowmobile Club.

Orvil is survived by his wife, Gwen, Webster City, a daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Jerry Strand, West Des Moines, a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kristy Luppes, Blairsburg; four grandchildren, Chad Mechaelsen, Stacy Watkins, Jordan Watkins and Abigail Luppes, two brothers, Johnnie Luppes Jr. of Blairsburg and Kenny Luppes of California; three sisters, Aretta Muxfeldt, Iona Hoversten, both of Webster City, and Lois Nixon, California. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Luppes, his parents, a brother, Verl Luppes, and a sister, Lavonne Hanson.
