Funeral services for Van Adrian Schroder, 77, of Galt, were held from the Dows United Methodist church at 11:00 am on Tues., Aug. 4, 1992. Stanley Watne officiated and burial was in the Galt cemetery. Marilyn Korth was the organist. Casket bearers were Steve Schlagel, Van Schroder, David Knudson, John and Chris Paulin and Robert Waters. The Elledge Funeral Home of Dows was in charge of arrangements. Van died Friday, July 31, 1992 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion where he had been a patient for the past week. He was born on the family farm south of Galt on April 27, 1915 to William and Margaret (Kuehl) Schroder. He was reared and educated in Galt and graduated from Galt High School in 1933. On March 10, 1940 he married Alyce Margaret Schwieger at the home of her parents in Dows. After their marriage they farmed near Dows for several years and then moved to Sumner, IA. They farmed in Sumner for six years and in 1947 they returned to the family farm south of Galt and continued farming. On April 21, 1972 his wife, Alyce, died. Survivors include one son, Mitchell of Lehigh; two daughters, Andrea Knudson of Monticello, GA and Colleen (Mrs. Thomas) Paulin of Elkader; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one brother, Lynn, of Galt. His parents, wife, two brothers, Stanton and Mitchell, and one daughter, Phyllis [Schlagel], preceded him in death.
