Funeral services for Melvin B. Gardalen of Goldfield were held at First Lutheran Church in Dows on Friday, February 22, 1980 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Harold McMillin officiated and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Clarion. The Eyler-Willim Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of the arrangements.

Melvin B. Gardalen was born at Popejoy on December 28, 1889 and was the son of Henry and Karen Chemous Gardalen. He died at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion on Monday, February 18, 1980. He was raised and educated in the Popejoy area and was married to Alma Hansen on December 19. 1917 at Belmond. They farmed near Dows until retiring to Clarion in 1950. While in Clarion he did carpenter and cement work. In 1956 they moved to an acreage near Goldfield. For the past twenty days he had made his home at the Clarion Care Center. Three children survive: Kenneth of Alexander, Orville of Des Moines and Mrs. Richard (Opal) Ross of Sauk Centre, Minnesota. There are also surviving 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. His parents, wife, five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Gardalen was baptized and confirmed at the Otis Grove Lutheran Church near Dows.
