Palma Joy (Olson) Holding, the daughter of Paul and Velma (Marlow) Olson, was born October 22, 1933, in Burdette, SD. As a young child her family moved to Burt, IA. She lived there, attended Burt High School participating in many extra curricular activities and graduated valedictorian of her class in 1951.

On July 21, 1951, Palma married Larry Holding at the Methodist Church in Corwith, IA. She graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1967 from Peru State College (Peru, NE), with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math and Science. Palma taught school for 11 years before moving to Eagle Grove in 1977, where she operated Fashions Unlimited with her mother until her retirement in 1993.

Palma was a member of the United Methodist Church and Esther Circle. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was serving President of Eagle Grove Chamber of Commerce in 1993. Palma enjoyed watching all sports – especially anything her children and grandchildren were participating in. She played a lot of golf, bowled for years and played many hands of Bridge – even teaching others how to play.

Palma passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015, at Southfield Wellness in Webster City, at the age of 81 years old. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Olson; father-in-law, Clifford Holding; mother-in-law, Georgia Holding; brother-in-law, Kaye Holding; and nephews, Bruce Olson and Bruce Holding Jr. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Larry Holding of Eagle Grove; four children: Valarie Andrew (Mike) of Oak Point, TX, Brad Holding of Eagle Grove, Brenda Lessor (Denis) of Kansas City, MO, and Vaughn Holding (Linda) of Hastings, NE; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her mother, Velma Holding of Conrad, two brothers, Ladell Olson (Judy) of Eagle Grove and Larry Lynn Olson (Nancy) of Conrad; brother-in-law, Bruce Holding (Diane) of Lewiston, CA; sister-in-law Eileen Holding of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

Memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Heather Dorr officiating. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
