Verlyn K. Blevins, 88, of Creston died May 4, 2015, at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center. Celebration of life services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 25 and 34. The Rev. Jim Woodworth will officiate. Burial will be in Allerton Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be during a light luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Creston. Memorials are to be decided at a later date..

Verlyn Kelley Blevins, son of Flossie (Kelley) and Clyde Blevins, was born May 4, 1927, in Corydon. Verlyn graduated from Promise City High School. On Feb. 14, 1949, Verlyn married Alice Louise Beam in Promise City. They lived in Corydon, Eagle Grove and Leon, where Verlyn worked for Grahams Department Store, managing the Leon and Corydon stores until 1979. He owned and operated the Doll Motel in Creston, later being changed to Triangle Motel. He also worked as a salesman for Lambert Glove Company and Lindsay Funeral Homes in Murray, Lorimor, Afton and Creston locations, Green Valley State Park and Southwestern Community College in the maintenance department. Verlyn was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Creston, was formerly active with the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and volunteered with Leon Fire Department and was active with the Boy Scouts over the years.

Verlyn is survived by his wife Alice Blevins of Creston; daughter Kathy (husband Fred) Buckingham of Blue Eye, Mo.; sons, Keith (wife Patti) Blevins of Creston and Kyle (husband Ladislav Pugel) Blevins of Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernice Egbert of Centerville and Norma Lee Campbell of Corydon. Verlyn was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Doris Tuttle and Mildred Egbert; and brothers Merlyn Blevins and Marvin Blevins.
