Francis J. Hearn, 73, retired vice president and cashier of the Amalgamated Trust & Savings Bank in the Loop, died Jan. 29 in his home in Eagle Grove, Iowa. A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Mr. Hearn was in the banking business there until he came to Chicago in 1960. Mr. Hearn worked at the Stock Yards Bank and the Central National Bank before he became asssociated with the Amalgamated Trust & Savings Bank, 100 S. State St., in 1969. He retired in 1986. A memorial mass for Mr. Hearn will be said at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Old St. Mary`s Catholic Church, 21 E. Van Buren St.

Francis Joseph Hearn was born March 18, 1916, the son of Richard and Mary Mitchell Hearn in Buffalo, N. Y. He received his education in the Buffalo school system, later attending a private school in Massachusetts, graduating in 1934. He enlisted in the United States Army on December 12, 1940. After serving his country in Europe and the United States during World War II, Francis was honorably discharged on December 1, 1945. He was employed by the Amalgamated Bank & Trust of Chicago and later was promoted to the position of vice president. He retired from banking in 1986. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eagle Grove, and was a member of the Eagle Grove Rotary Club.Francis Joseph Hearn was diagnosed as having bone marrow cancer in July of 1989. He died at the Mercy Hospital in Mason City on January 29, 1990 at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 11 days. Funeral services were held in the Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove on January 30 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne Droessler officiating. A private family interment is planned for a later date in New York.
