December 16, 1864 --- June 8, 1921

Elizabeth Hossman, daughter of Samuel and Lena Hossman was born at Berne, Switzerland December 16, 1864, and departed this life at Wessington, S.D. June 8, 1921, being aged at death 56 years, 5 months and 22 days.

She was married to Samuel [sic. Frederick] Hossman November 25, 1891. To this union were born two children, Frederick R. and William H., the later dying in infancy. Her husband preceded her in death, having died July 28, 1918, and was laid to rest in the Wessington Cemetery.

Besides her son, she leaves to mourn their loss four brothers, Samuel and Christ Hossmann of Eagle Grove, Ia., Joseph Hossmann of San Francisco, California, and Fritz Hossmann of Wessington, S.D., also one sister Mrs. Rosa Wiss of Vandali, Illinois. She also leaves and aged father Samuel Hossmann Sr. and a number of relatives and friends.

Early in life she was baptized and later she was confirmed and united with the Lutheran church which relationship she held at the time of her death. She with her parents came to Illinois from Switzerland, where her mother died 1883, leaving her to care for the family consisting of her father and four younger children. In 1884 they moved to South Dakota where they have since resided.

For sometime she had suffered severely, and as a last resort she submitted to an operation, which relieved her pain but already the disease had passed beyond the skill of man and death claimed her for his own. Thus, a kind daughter, an indulgent mother, a good neighbor has passed from among us to that everlasting realm from which none ever return.

There is no death! The stars go down
To rise upon some fairer shore
And bright in heaven's jeweled crown
They shine forever more.

There is no death! An angel form
Walks o'er the earth with silent tread
He bears our dear loved ones away
And then we call them dead.

He leaves our hearts all desolate
He plucks the truest, purest flowers.
Transplanted into bliss, they now
Adorn immortal bowers.

The funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Union Church by the pastor, Rev. F.W. Stoll and the remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Wessington Cemetery.
