DeWitt, Iowa — Mrs. Mildred E. “Millie” Nolte, 88, of DeWitt, died Friday afternoon, May 1, 2015, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport. Mrs. Nolte, the former Mildred Elsie Emma Knitt, was born March 14, 1927, in Clintonville, Wis., to Henry Sr. and Bertha (Gast) Knitt. She was a 1944 graduate of Clintonville High School and attended NE Medical Technology in Minneapolis. On Oct. 2, 1954, she was united in marriage to Allen Lyle Nolte at Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville. The couple resided in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Belmond, Iowa, prior to moving to DeWitt in 1961, where they raised their family. Millie worked as a laboratory technician for 27 years at DeWitt Community Hospital until retiring in 1995. Her husband, Al, preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 1984.

Millie was a longtime and active member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, where she was involved in Grace Lutheran Women, the Church Circles, Prayer Warriors, Cradle Roll and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Millie was also a member of the Ci-Ed Club, and was involved with hospice as a volunteer. She was an avid bowler at DeWitt Lanes, bowling in leagues twice weekly. Earlier in life, Millie was active in Cub Scouts. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Millie enjoyed playing cards with local friends and her children and grandchildren, taking great joy in defeating her children especially. She also participated in numerous state and national bowling tournaments over the years, and enjoyed bus trips to ball games in Chicago and other destinations. She was also a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan, whiling away many Sunday afternoons watching her favorite teams.

Surviving are children, Steven Nolte, Brillion, Wis., Douglas (Ruth) Nolte, Owatonna, Minn., William (Sandra) Nolte, Grapevine, Texas, Marcia (William) Perdieu, DeWitt, and Paul (Kim) Nolte, Waukesha, Wis.; grandchildren, Jessica (Mike) Krueger, John (Maria) Nolte, Laura Nolte and Daniel Nolte, Kristina Nolte and Olivia Nolte, Lucas Perdieu and Nick Rivest, James Rivest and Andrew Nolte; great-grandchildren, Grace Krueger and Quin Krueger and Alexandria Rivest; a sister, Alma Krueger, Shawano, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Millie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Arnold, William, Alfred, Henry, Elmer, Emory, Victor and Earl.

The family will receive relatives and friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, and from 10 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Friday, May 8, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. A Service of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Ron Rafferty officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
