WATERLOO, IA -- The Rev. Edgar L. “Ed” James, 85, of Waterloo, died Monday, April 27, at Lakeview Landing. He was born Feb. 4, 1930, in Pittsburgh, son of Enoch and Mabel James. He married Rita Shaeffer on June 23, 1956, in Vandergrift, Pa.; she died in 1991. Ed graduated from Wilkinsburg High School, Wilkinsburg, Pa., and attended Thiel College, Greenville, Pa. He worked in business as a credit manager for more than 20 years. He then attended Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago and Chicago Theological Seminary. He pastored churches in Bland, Mo., and Eagle Grove, moving to Waterloo after his retirement. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Survived by: two sons, Eric L. of Mesa, Ariz., and Paul N. of Yorkville, Ill.; a daughter, Christy (Randy) Donelson of St. Paul, Minn.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Newmyer of Jefferson Hills, Pa. Preceded in death by: his parents; a son, David; and his companion, Betty Cool.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational UCC. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, assisted the family. Memorials may be directed to the family.
