Kenneth Clayton Chapman, the son of (4th of 14) Clayton and Lucille (Mason) Chapman, was born July 5, 1934, in New Hartford, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from New Hartford High School in 1953. Kenneth served in the United State Marine Corps (Korean War) from Nov. 24, 1953 until his honorable discharge on Nov. 23, 1956, attaining a Corporal ranking.
On January 4, 1958, Kenneth was united in marriage with Mary Anne Streuber in Hudson. To this union four children were born: Harold, Jeff, Chris and Mary Beth. Kenneth's career as a farm hand for Curtis Johnson and as a truck driver brought him and his family to Eagle Grove in 1969. He trucked for many places including Umthun Trucking, Werner Enterprises and he retired in 2001 from Cornhusker Motor Lines.
Kenneth was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing (any many trips to Canada), hunting and spending time with his family and friends. Kenneth could always be found reading Westerns – over and over and catching a few on T.V. He was also an Iowa, Yankee and Vikings fan.
Kenneth died peacefully on April 26, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, North Iowa in Mason City, at the age of 80 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Harold "Skip" Chapman in 1974 and a sister, Marion Christenson. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Anne Chapman of Eagle Grove; sons, Jeff Chapman (Danna) of Boone and Chris Chapman (Pam) of Ankeny; daughter, Mary Beth Hammen (Ed) of Clarion; eight grandchildren: Matt, Scott, Shane, Cody, Meghan, Sami, Sara and Sarah; six great-grandchildren: Autumn, Destiny, Tanner, Aiden, Alec and Brielle; five brothers: Don, Dean, Greg, Larry and Harold and seven sisters: Darlene, Margaret, Nancy, Rose, Linda, Shirley and Janet.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Father Jerry Blake celebrating. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 4:30 at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove in charge of arrangements.
