May 7, 1875 --- October 4, 1955

John McDonald was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on May 7, 1875. He came to Eagle Grove, Iowa, with his parents when the Chicago & North Western railroad was being built to Eagle Grove in 1881. He attended grade and high school in Eagle Grove and went to work for the North Western in 1896 in their shops. In 1902 he was promoted to engineer which position he held until the time of his accident. He was very active in the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was very active in the Masonic Lodge and held many state positions. Member of Eastern Star and White Shrine. He was also active in his church, the First Congregational of Eagle Grove. He served as church treasurer, and on the board of deacons and board of trustees many years. In 1900 he was married to Ethyl P. Livergood. There are no survivors of their family. Mrs. McDonald passed away less than 3 months ago. They took into their home Mrs. Clifford Olsen, now of Goldfield and she grew up in their family circle.
