MRS. CARPENTER DIED YESTERDAY

Mrs. Alpha Carpenter, 83, a longtime resident of Webster City-Blairsburg community, died Friday evening at the Hamilton County hospital. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Marvin Brewer officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Alpha Helen Brown, daughter of John and Mary Hubell Brown, was born July 23, 1884, at Adams, Neb. When she was a child, she moved with her parents to Iowa, locating in the Webster City community and received her education in Webster City schools. She was united in marriage Feb. 27, 1907, to Peter M. Carpenter, and the couple resided in the Woolstock area, later moving to Minnesota where they resided at Mankato for a number of years. In 1932, they returned to Iowa, locating on a farm north of Blairsburg where Mr. Carpenter preceded her in death July 7, 1941. Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Carpenter had made her home in Webster City. She is survived by two daughters and one son: Mrs. Jeffrey (Glendon) Bygness of Eagle Grove, Mitchell John Carpenter of Grand Rapids, Minn., and Mrs. Donald F. (Opal) Doolittle of Blairsburg; four grandsons, Jack Carpenter, Grand Rapids, Minn., Weldon Carpenter, Denver Colo., Dennis Doolittle, now serving in Vietnam, and Royal Doolittle, Blairburg; four great-granddaughters, Laurie and Julie Carpenter of Grand Rapids, Lynn and Janet Carpenter of Denver. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Alma Brown, and three brothers, Fred, Charles, and George Brown. Mrs. Carpenter was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
