Marvin Glen Helmke, 57, died at his home in rural Emmetsburg on May 22. Funeral services for Mr. Helmke will be held today, May 25, at 2 p.m. from the United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Chester Waterman will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with Martin-Bails Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Marvin Helmke was born March 29, 1919 in Renwick. He was the son of Albert and Laura Boge Helmke. On Nov. 14, 1943, Marvin Helmke and M. Iona Christensen were married in West Bend. The Helmkes farmed near Emmetsburg for the past seven years, living previously in the Rolfe and Pocahontas areas. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau and Odd Fellows Lodge at West Bend. Surviving are his wife, Iona; two daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Judy) Sindergard of Rolfe and Linda Helmke of Emmetsburg; and two grandchildren, Kimberly Sue and Tracey Lynn. Also one sister, Mrs. Eunice Weaver of Waterloo. Casket bearers are Howard Henkelvig, Don Peters, Rolland Grage, Roger Walker, Mike Haack and Erwin Gehling.
