January 20, 1845 --- March 9, 1930

Wilhelm Flemming was born on January 21, 1845 in Germany and peacefully passed away to his rest after a long and active life on March 9, 1930 at a the age of 85 years, 1 month and 16 days. When he was a boy of seven years of age he came with his parents to America who emigrated from Widenberg, Germany, and they settled at Shebogen, Wisconsin. When he reached the age of 18 years the great Civil War was being fought under the presidency of Abraham Lincoln and Wilhelm Flemmig enlisted in Company K, Wisconsin Infantry. Later, he transferred to Company K, 7th Iowa Infantry. In the year 1876, he came along with his parents to Beaver township, Humboldt county.

He was united in marriage to Sophia Kirchoff on March 22, 1870 and to this union six children were born. His beloved wife preceded him in death in the year 1916. Also one daughter on August 31, 1905. Wilhelm Flemming belonged to that hardy race of pioneers who, amidst many hardships, turned those open prairies into productive farms. The country owes much to such as he. But his life's day is over, his work is done and like a tired child he fell asleep.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Joseph J. Sharo, pastor of the First Methodist church, Humboldt, Iowa, in the home and burial took place in the burial ground near Thor, on March 12, 1930.
