Paul Rex Couchman, 88, of Ames, passed away May 27, 2012 at his home at The Rose in Ames, IA. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 with visitation starting at 1 p.m. at The Rose of Ames. Paul's desire was to be cremated and burial will be at a later date in Corydon, Iowa.

Paul was born September, 23, 1923 to Ernest and Mary Rosetta (Marick) Couchman. He was born and raised on the family farm near Allerton, Iowa, graduated in 1940 at the age of 16 and farmed with his father on the home place on Highway 65. In 1943 Paul enlisted and was assigned to the 15th Army Air Force Division and was stationed in Foggia, Italy. He flew 31 missions over Germany in WWII. He was a lifetime member of the DAV. While on leave he married Beverly Jenice Bone on June 30, 1944. They were blessed with two sons and two daughters. After the war Paul returned home and worked first at John Deere and then worked for 30 years with International Harvester throughout Iowa. He owned and ran a bowling alley in Waukon, IA and had a milk can route and small dairy farm in Wayne county. He cleaned swimming pools in Phoenix, AZ and was the manager at Davis Farm Supply in Corydon, IA. He helped build some of the original Main Street buildings at Adventure land in the 1970's and spent 15 years managing apartments in Boone and Nevada before retiring in 1999. Paul was a carpenter at heart and enjoyed making furniture for his grandchildren and just about anything anyone asked him to build. He was always building or sketching some design for a pattern to build.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly, of 67 years; children Ken (Denise) Couchman of Clive, Joyce Carpenter of Des Moines and Dee (Gary) Sprecher of Boone; seven grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Audrey Couchman of Corydon, Evelyn Duckworth and Bernadine Mc Gee, both of Phoenix, AZ; brother-in-law Edwin (Edwina) Bone of Belvidere, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his 1st born infant son, Marvin; his parents; sisters Coy McKee and Cleo Grismore; brother Dale Couchman; son-in-law Bud Carpenter; sisters-in-law Margret Ramsey and Louise Ockerman; brothers-in-law Kermit Mc Gee, John Duckworth, Robert Ockerman, Wilson Grismore and Shorty McKee and granddaughter-in-law Kristi Couchman.
