Lyle Leroy (Sonny) Christopher Jr. was born on Thursday, February 25, 1937 to Lyle and Helen (Peterson) Christopher at Popejoy, Iowa. He attended school in Dows, Iowa and in addition to sharing a birthday with Bob Schieffer of "Face the Nation" fame was a self-proclaimed political pontificate. Sonny worked at Kay Implement in Livermore, Iowa and later operated "Sonny's Repair" in Livermore for several years.

A talented and innovative mechanic, a skill that was passed on to his son Rodney, Sonny could listen to a car or tractor engine and tell you what needed to be repaired. His daughters remember him rolling down the road singing Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire", playing card and board games together when they were younger, his love for chocolate malts and his cats Midnight and Bubba. Always the proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he enjoyed listening to their stories and hearing about their activities.

The Chrome Country Inn lost a loyal customer and "hot beef" connoisseur on Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Lyle (Sonny) Christopher passed away at the Titonka Care Center at the age of 77.

Survivors include his first wife Donna (Shimon-Christopher) Halder of Pocahontas and their children, Brenda and Chris Lindgren of Adel; Laurie and Mike Ayers of Pocahontas; Rodney and LuAnn Christopher of Humboldt; Tina and Steve Wheatley of Palmer; Sonya and Bill Burtnett of Algona; Angee and Brian Koehler of Blaine, MN; eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Vila Armstrong of Algona; Judith Ann Eisenbacher of Algona; Betty Lou Copp of Eagle Grove; Orville Christopher of Pensacola, Florida; Gerald Christopher of West Branch; Mary Schulz of Whittemore; and Sherry Lee Fletcher of Corwith. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Jodie Lynn Christopher; second wife Diana Parsons; sister Phyllis (Christopher) Burlingame; and brother Larry Christopher.
