Funeral services for Roger Thompson will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick with Reverend James Harbaugh officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. Visitation is Friday, March 6, from 5-7 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Renwick.

Roger Duane Thompson was born May 4, 1940, on a farm east of Renwick, the son of LeRoy and Grace (Egemo) Thompson. He attended school in Renwick and graduated from the Boone Valley High School in 1958. After his graduation he began farming with his father. In 1959, he was married to Frances Bird and they later divorced. On July 2, 1983, Roger was united in marriage to Lois Rapp in Goldfield, at the Park Church of Christ. After their marriage they lived in Goldfield, and later 11 years at their Lake Cornelia home. Roger continued to farm as well as, selling Asgrow Seed Corn, Archer Oil and later sold cars at a local auto dealer in Clarion. Roger retired from farming in 2012. Roger enjoyed spending time at Lake Cornelia, attending the Knoxville sprint car races and the local stock car races. For the past 10 years the couple wintered in Zephyr hills, Florida, where he enjoyed golfing, bowling, dancing and just being outside in the nice weather.

Roger died Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion, Iowa. He was 74. He is survived by his wife, Lois Thompson of Goldfield; children, Cindy (Sheldon) Mack of Greenville; Connie (Lonnie) Boekhout of Marcus; Colleen (Tim) Lodin of Kanawha; Randy (Kristin) Thompson of Manasquan, NJ; Lori (Dennis) Kiley-Simmons; of Webster City; Lona (Roger) Haglund of Iowa Falls; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings, Donna (Larry) Cameron of Ames; Marvin (Janet) Thompson of Renwick; Bonnie Welter of Renwick; Darlene (John) Egesdal of Reinbeck; Rick (Jan) Thompson of Renwick; Dale (Roxanne) Thompson of Ames; David (Marcia) Thompson of Badger; Danny (Chris) Thompson of Goldfield; Douglas Thompson of Blue Springs, MO; Mark (Tammy) Thompson of Lidderdale; Greg (Allyson) Thompson of Renwick and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry Thompson in infancy and brother-in-law, Delmar Welter.
