Webster City driver killed in truck accident

Darwin D. Draeger, 20, a Webster City truck driver, was killed Monday evening when the truck he was driving struck a concrete island at a weigh station on Interstate Highway 35 just west of Slater, Iowa. Officials of the Iowa Highway Patrol said that Draeger was thrown about 69 feet when he apparently lost control of his truck, striking the island at 6:30 p.m. Authorities reported that he was dead on arrival at Methodist hospital in Des Moines. Draeger was driving a truck owned by John Pruismann of Webster City.

Funeral services for Darwin Dewayne Draeger will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Robert Martin officiating and with burial in the Cass Center cemetery.

Darwin Dewayne Draeger, son of Raymond G. and Maxine Larson Draeger, was born March 22, 1952, at Panora, Iowa. He was reared and educated in Webster City. He was recently married to Patricia Nickle of Oxford, Kan. He had formerly been employed at the Boone Valley Soybean Processing plant at Eagle Grove, but had been employed more recently by John Pruismann of Webster City.

He is survived by his wife; one step-son, Michael; his parents; 11 sisters and six brothers; Mrs. Robert (Gladys) Pruismann of Blairsburg, Mrs. Leland (Carol) Arthur of Clarion, Mrs. Charles (Sharon) Summers of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. John (Judy) McCormick of Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Larry (Pearl) Whitson of Webster City, Mrs. Michael (Viola) Clemens of Webster City, Mrs. Dennis (Marjorie) Krieger of Woolstock, Jane, Marlene, Barbara and Mary Ann, all at home in Woolstock, George of Bagley, Ill., Charles of Webster City, Leroy of Thor, Albert of Webster City and David and Gary, both of Woolstock, and his grandmother, Mrs. Albert Draeger of Webster City. He was a member of the United Methodist church. The casket will remain closed.
