Hilda B. Vevle, 87, passed away Thursday evening, Oct. 5, 2006, at the Northfield Hospital. Hilda was born May 16, 1919, in Abercrombie, N.D., to the Rev. Carl M. and Myrtle (Strand) Vevle. As a girl she moved with her family to Rolfe, Iowa; Pontiac, Ill.; and Wautoma, Wis. She graduated from Wautoma High School in 1936. In 1940, she graduated from St. Olaf College with a bachelor's degree in English. She taught high school English in Wisconsin many years until retiring in 1982. In 1999 she returned to Northfield. Hilda is survived by her sisters: Norma Patterson, Lois Vevle; her brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Robert J. and Mary Vevle; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Margie and David Eastwood; and her brother-in-law, Fred "Pat" Patterson.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, at the Northfield Retirement Center Chapel with the Rev. John Quam and the Rev. Diane Goulson officiating. Interment will be in Eagle Grove Cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa. Arrangements are with Benson & Langehough Funeral Home.
