December 23, 1871 --- January 21, 1956

Severt L. Hammersland was born December 23, 1871 in Skaanevick, Norway to Barney and Ingeborg Hammersland, and passed away on January 21, 1956 at this home in Vincent, Iowa, at the age of 84 years and 28 days. The family came to the United States and settled in Illinois. His mother passed away when he was 9 years old. His father then took his motherless family to Iowa and established a home on a farm seven and a half miles southeast of Roland. He he attended school and grew to manhood. After some time spend in Montana he returned home and was united in marriage to Miss Anna K. Boyd of Roland. In 1910 they moved to Forest City, where they made their home with the exception of a few years in Clear Lake. In 1930 they retired from farming and moved to Vincent, Iowa, to be near their children.

Mrs. Hammersland passed away June 2, 1941, and since that time he made his home with his children. He was the last survivor of his family, three sisters and three brothers having preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing six children: Mrs. A. O. Swasand, Miss Annetta Hammersland, Earl and Knute Hammersland, all of Vincent, Willard Hammersland of Springfield, Ore., Miss Hazel Hammersland of Helena, Mont., 2 half sisters, Mrs. Fred Statler of Des Moines, and Mrs. Phillip Martens of Roland. Also five grandchildren, Mrs. Warren Quist of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Thomas and Regar Swasand of Vincent; and two great grandchildren, David and Thoms Quist of San Luis Obispo, Calif. Services were held January 24 at the South Enes Lutheran church at Vincent, with Rev. Benjamin Caltvedt in charge. Burial was in the Roland cemetery.
