Williams resident killed in auto crash
S. D. Williams is victim of accident
WILLIAMS - Steven D. Williams, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Williams of Williams, was instantly killed early this morning in a one-vehicle accident which occurred on a black top road south of Dows. According to the Wright county sheriff's office, Williams was apparently driving a Chevy Blazer, owned by Bill Johnson, 27, also of Williams, who suffered minor injuries when the vehicle went off the highway and overturned. Investigating officials said tracks on the Dows-Williams blacktop, County Road R-75, indicated that the vehicle was southbound and had gone off the road on one side of the highway, swerved across the road and then plunged into the ditch.
Williams was apparently thrown out of the vehicle by the impact and was crushed when the demolished car toppled over onto him. The Dows ambulance was called to take Johnson to Dr. L. D. Barry's office in Williams where he was treated and released. The accident occurred at about 2:15 this morning about two and one-half miles south of Dows in Wright county and marked the first traffic fatality of the year in Wright county. The mishap was investigated by personnel from the Wright county sheriff's office and Iowa Highway Patrolman Dennis Hawkins of Iowa Falls.
Funeral services for Steven Williams are pending, with the Surls and Grupe Funeral chapel of Williams in charge of arrangements.
