Gertrude May DeForest was born at Cissna Park, Ill., on April 5, 1889, the eldest of four children, and came to Dows with the family in December, 1895, where she has lived ever since. She attended the country school near her home and was graduated from Dows High School in 1909. Gertrude was an accomplished musician and pianist, always giving generously of her time and talent. For a number of years, she was organist at the Popejoy Methodist church where she attended Sunday school and church services. Her talent was always in demand for high school activities. On many special occasions she served as pianist at the Dows Lutheran and Methodist churches. On Apil 7, 1917, Gertrude was united in marriage to Elwood Bauge. They established their home south of Dows where they have lived since that time. Besides her husband, Mrs. Bauge leaves her mother, Mrs. Frank DeForest of Dows, a sister, Mrs. Harry W. Paine of Cincinnati, Ohio. Mrs. Bauge's father preceded her in death two years ago last Sept.
